Please advise. Blood in stool!! Scary!

Postby Predestinarian » Fri Jun 29, 2018 7:30 pm

I’m 43 yr old male. I’ve been chronically constipated and have had to rely on laxatives / suppositories over the last few yrs to have a bm. I think it was mostly due to a lack of fiber. My weight is good and I exercise a lot. My grandmother had colon cancer in her late 60s - caught early and treated only with surgery. My mother survived breast cancer in her 60s. My stool is a lot more narrow than it used to be. It’s not pencil thin, but narrower.

Last week I woke up in he middle of the night with severe cramping. It felt like I was obstructed. I had nausea. And I had explosive diarrhea when I used a suppository - followed by blood (bright red) and mucus. I went to the doc that day and he referred me to gastroenterologist for a colonoscopy. He also prescribed miralax and it has helped! My stool is still narrow. I go into gastroenterologist in a few days. Should I insist upon the colonoscopy if he tries to talk me out of it? I think I want one, the bleeding scared me. My primary doc wasn’t too concerned and said it could be anything. They say that screening should start at 45 and I’m almost a yr and a half away from that.

Many thanks!

Always best to push for a colonoscopy if for no other reason than to set your mind at ease.

Good luck with your appointment. :)

Push for that colonoscopy. That will give you a true diagnoses, anything else is just a speculation.

Good luck, and keep us posted,

Colonoscopy was a success. No problems found. Big relief. Doc said I have a very slow moving colon. Thanks everyone. My heart goes out to all those who are suffering with cancer.

Thank you for getting the Colonoscopy! Rectal Bleeding was my only symptom and it was only occasional. I went two years before I did the colonoscopy and they found the 3 cm tumor in my rectal area 8 cm from the anal verge. If I had went two years earlier when I first saw the rectal bleeding I could've really caught the disease very early. Instead it grew into a T3c tumor. I got lucky and it didnt spread anywhere. I had a great surgery and had 21 nodes negative. Im very very lucky. Ignoring rectal bleeding could've been the death of me and still might be. I should've went day 1 upon symptoms.

You cant let doctors talk you out of a Colonoscopy when you find rectal bleeding. Its a MUST with no question asked.

Should be mandatory at 45 if not 40. This is an avoidable damn disease if caught early. Waiting till 50 is crazy.

Im glad you did it and glad to hear the outcome.

What do you mean when you say occasionally? Is it once a week? Or Once a month? Or once in three months? Can you shed light about this?

I have a rectal bleeding about 20 months ago, should I be worried?

Need some advice from you guys
