I’m 43 yr old male. I’ve been chronically constipated and have had to rely on laxatives / suppositories over the last few yrs to have a bm. I think it was mostly due to a lack of fiber. My weight is good and I exercise a lot. My grandmother had colon cancer in her late 60s - caught early and treated only with surgery. My mother survived breast cancer in her 60s. My stool is a lot more narrow than it used to be. It’s not pencil thin, but narrower.
Last week I woke up in he middle of the night with severe cramping. It felt like I was obstructed. I had nausea. And I had explosive diarrhea when I used a suppository - followed by blood (bright red) and mucus. I went to the doc that day and he referred me to gastroenterologist for a colonoscopy. He also prescribed miralax and it has helped! My stool is still narrow. I go into gastroenterologist in a few days. Should I insist upon the colonoscopy if he tries to talk me out of it? I think I want one, the bleeding scared me. My primary doc wasn’t too concerned and said it could be anything. They say that screening should start at 45 and I’m almost a yr and a half away from that.
Many thanks!
