Scared I might have Cecum Cancer. 24 years old male.

Postby bran_sun » Thu Jun 28, 2018 11:02 pm

I just had a CT scan of my abdomen, for kidney pain. Everything in the abdomen was normal except that they found numerous pericecal lymph nodes present, right lower quadrant measuring up to 12 mm. The report says it may represent mesenteric adenitis. My question is, is this from colon cancer, or is this a benign cause. I have no sympotms of weight loss or blood in the stool. Just IBS symptoms. I do get gas pains a lot but mainly on the left side. Is this cancer is the cecum? What would cause all these lymph nodes? The gastro said I could either wait 3 months for re-scan or do colonoscopy, though he doesn’t think it is necessary due to my age of 24. What should I do? I’m very worried!

Don't let the doctor tell you that you are too young for any test! I got colon cancer at age 36. I never had blood in my stool, no diarrhea, no weight loss, only pain. Because I had no family history and my young age, I went 1 year mis-diagnosed by several docs. Finally, I got a 2nd opinion and he did a colonoscopy immediately. I would get it done. They recently lowered the base age to 45. I have a feeling that age will continue to drop in the coming years.

Hopefully it's not colon cancer and something treatable. But I would highly advise getting a colonoscopy just in case as it could save your life.

Good Luck

Do a colonoscopy. Absolutely no reason not to.
(BTW, I had no symptoms except anemia when I was diagnosed. Felt pretty good, in fact. Gastro had even told me likelihood of colon cancer "extremely low".)
There's a good chance you're clear -- and you ARE young -- so don't be scared prematurely. Just do the colonoscopy so you know for sure.
Dx 2/2017, age 45, 2 kids: 6 yrs & 3 yrs
History of Crohn's disease - dx in 1997; in remission, thus no colonoscopy in over 10 years
Anemia dx 11/16: GI doc assured me "the likelihood of colon cancer" was "very low".
Stage 3C - T3N2b
8/64 lymph nodes; clear margins surgery 3/17
12 cycles of Folfox 4/17-9/17
3-month CT scan midway through chemo, no changes
2-3-mo CT scan post chemo 11/17 slightly larger lung nod (incr. from 7mm to 8 or 9mm)
CT scan 3/18 - NED
clear CT scan 1/2019 NED

Get a colonoscopy done. My husbands cancer was in his cecum, and he had no symptoms! It was found with colonoscopy!
