VATS lung resection

Postby Atoq » Tue Jun 26, 2018 4:13 pm

Today I had the VATS surgery, it was quite short (half an hour) and I am full of cables with also a drain but pain free thanks to the epidural. I sat one hour and ate, I hope they will let me walk tomorrow. Yesterday they served me a soup with beans and that was the first time I ate them after reversal. It went ok.

I've had four VATS procedures and epidurals rock! They take care of the pain so you can heal. They'll be coming soon to pull the chest drain and then you'll be more comfortable.

You're right about walking - do it as soon as they let you. Did they give you an incentive spirometer to use? If so, make sure you use it every two hours while you're awake. Deep breathing helps the lungs expand and prevents pneumonia.

Get well and take care!

I'm glad everything went well. Praying you'll heal quickly and will be at the end of your treatment. My guess is that you will do great as you have recovered quickly and done very well throughout your treatment.

Thanks a lot for your encouraging words. Today they removed the epidural, the drenage was gone yesterday and they plan to send me home tomorrow. I have been walking in the corridors and the physioterapeut also suggested that I go up and down the stairs. No restrictions in moving or lifting.

They manage to do only one cut. Really incredible clever people and high technology.

I wondered how you were doing post surgery Claudia!

Happy to hear that all went well, you're recovery is impressive and must be a testament to your otherwise excellent health.

Thanks Shana,
I am now cuddling with the cat at home :) I am taking some pain medicines because they said is better to avoid cronic pain, but otherwise I am very happy and feel that this surgery was also easy.

Have a nice weekend too

Hi! The surgeon said they would start as VATS and see if they can avoid open surgery, they can also do a lobectomy as VATS but for a small lesion they should not remove a lot of tissue.

Good luck with your surgery!
