Probiotic and cream for frequent BM?

Postby Lotus » Mon Jun 25, 2018 8:25 am

Dear friends
I had robotic LAR surgery on April 11. It was stage one so no radiation or chemo follow up. The frequency of my BM varies with my diet and I am experiementing with Metamucil and that has helped. Yesterday I went at least 20 times.
Can anyone recommend a probiotic that may help me with this issue? Or if not this issue, a good probiotic for general gut health? PRO-X10 from Biotrust was recommended by a friend .....I ordered some yesterday then realized that I should have checked here first. Pro x10 arrives in the mail unrefrigerated....I thought they would dry ice it.......they told me that it doesn’t need to be refrigerated until opened because of the way it is bottled. I thought a good probiotic should always be chilled?

Also can anyone recommend a cream for a very sore butt?

THanks in advance for any suggestion. Really appreciate all the help and support I’ve received here.

VSL Probiotic 3 (often called VSL # 3) or Visbiome is a medical-grade probiotic that my GI physician highly endorses.

Until recently, it was available only by prescription. Now, it is readily available on Amazon.

VSL # 3 was initially used to repopulate a healthful bacteria flora into the GI tracts of individuals inflicted with Chron’s and Ulcerative Colitis. VSL # 3 is good stuff. You can easily Google VSL # 3 to learn about its unique profile.

I take VSL # 3, myself.

Ditto what MissMolly (Karen) wrote. My gastro recommended it two years ago - no other brands, just VSL#3. Amazon is my BFF but I personally wouldn't buy it on Amazon because VSL#3 needs to be refrigerated, I believe. When I buy it, I always have to go to the pharmacy counter because they store it in the frig there, not on the shelves. I buy it at Walgreens and Costco. Usually Walgreens will have a $5 off coupon and it ends up being the same price as Costco.

Apply pure coconut oil generously outside and inside the butt for reducing soreness. Highly effective.
I used to take vsl#3 ( the best) but now take econorm sachet once a while.

Calmoseptine. It's the best! It's available several places, but here's a link so you know what it looks like:

Hope this helps!

Thanks so much to everyone who offered suggestions, really appreciate it.
I will try the VSL probiotic!
Since I posted this I saw my surgeon because the itching and burning inside my anus got worse. He told me to increase fiber intake to lessen BM. Thankfully BM has reduced.
He said it was not a fissure but a condition like diaper rash so recommended desitin which I’ve been using for two days with NO relief whatsoever. Today I’ll get the calmoseptiine .....if anyone had a suggestion for any other remedy pls share.
I’ve Also been doing the sitz baths frequently.

Just for the record I want to report that I started using calmoseptine yesterday morning. Today the rash is VOLUMES better.
It is still there but much less painful....well on the way to healing. Had sitz bath after every BM....not in tub but in a basin inserted onto toilet seat.....dried with hair dryer, no paper.....and today started alternating calmoseptine with unscented talcum powder
I’m so grateful for the help I get here.
