Mom's surgery 5/23 (HAI pump)

Postby njf » Sat Jun 16, 2018 8:44 am

She had surgery on 5/23 And her primary was removed with 10 inches of colon (clean margins). They also removed 2 liver mets from her left liver lobe (clean margins). She wasn't suppose to have a colostomy but developed a infection so on 5/30 a second surgery was done and she will have a colostomy until her next planned surgery after 3-6 months of chemo when they plan to resect the right lobe it will be reversed. All lymph nodes was clear. Drs remarked her tissue is all very healthy including the liver despite still having multiple Mets left in the right lobe. They believe they can get it all in time so the fear is it spreading or recurring so hopefully the HAI pump gets her to NED and keeps her there, but it's all very scary! Its been 30 days almost in NYC from Michigan and she is due to get the pump filled on 6/20 And then we fly home!

Surgery was done at mskcc by Dr. Paty (colon) and Dr. Kingham (liver).

I am very happy that your mom has already been recovering after her surgeries. Clear nodes and margins are excellent news! I wish her super response to FUDR from the pump.
Thank you for letting us know!

Her CEA on 6/20 when she started receiving HAI therapy was 36 and that was drop from her pre surgery CEA of 55 (4/25). Today 7/3 her CEA is down to 4.5 which is just 13 days post first treatment with HAI! She just started systemic again today as well at a lower dose then what she was getting presurgery/HAI.

Very good news! It sounds like the pump is working. Sending lots of good thoughts and prayers her way!

Just want to add to the prayers and well wishes. Dr. Paty added my husband’s pump 2 years ago this month. Wish you great success. It’s all so very intimidating at first but becomes a new norm.
