I had a really bad episode of nausea and taste change during xeloda chemo. There were huge episodes before each meal . I would throw tantrums like a baby. My wife actually had to call my friend over to convince me to eat something.
Some of things that worked:
Boiled rice with yogurt with mild sauces.
Bananas and apples with black salt.
Eggs sunny side up with lots of salt.
Vanilla flavored desserts.

Couldn't stand chicken or fish .

One of things that I could eat a lot was kada parshad, an indian dessert. It is a smooth, soft, velvety and rich halwa made with whole wheat flour (atta) with sugar and clarified butter ( ghee). It gave lot of energy too.

An oncologist had suggested it. You can Google its recipe or ask some indian friend for its recipe or even prepare it for you.

I completely agree! The weird thing is initially the things he could eat were mac and cheese, alfredo, and other fatty foods. The only fruit he was getting was a banana and that's because he liked bananas and it's one of the few fresh fruits he can eat. But now it seems like unless it's almost a liquid like applesauce, smoothies, or soup he can't eat it. He tried eating a banana yesterday and it made him gag and vomit which has never happened before! He said it didn't taste bad, it just made him gag. We have an appointment with the Oncologist today so I'm definitely going to bring that up.

Oooh that sounds like something he might be able to tolerate, thank you! I'll have to look that up!!

The chemo drugs really drain your electrolytes - it showed up as leg cramps for me. I bought Nuun tablets and have Magnesium horse pills but salt is cheap, convenient and handy when your body craves electrolytes. I have a shaker in my office and a Nuun tube filled with it as a backup.

Xeloda also made me extremely nauseated. I was almost worse the week off of the pills.. the toxicity seemed to build up each week and each cycle. It was a constant battle to get enough food into me so that I could take the pills. Foods that tasted good changed from day to day, week to week, and month to month. You just just have to keep trying different flavors and textures and combinations. Foods that surprised me and tasted pretty good included... Rice and curry dishes, hummus, strawberry shortcake with whipped cream, anything with whipped cream, filet-o-fish, corn on the cob, watermelon. When I really needed to eat something so I could take my pills, my standby was peanut butter and jelly on bread or crackers. Good luck... You will get through it.
