quarter size mass found in my 13 year old son, need advise.

Postby missie_gail » Mon Jun 04, 2018 10:03 pm

Hello all,
I am new to the forum, here's a little background. My 13 year old son Henry recently had an upper GI where they noticed that he had a filling defect in in large intestine. He was then given a lower GI where again it showed a filling defect in the Cecum. This brings us to today. He underwent a colonoscopy this morning, the results show a mass the size of a quarter, that seems to be well defined with a dimple in the middle.

Dr of course can not tell if it is cancer until the biopsies come back Wednesday or Thursday of this week. I know there is no way of completely knowing if it is or if it isn't until the biopsy comes in but I am going crazy. I have read that if it is flat it is bad, am I just grasping at straws?

Prayers for all who is fighting the good fight.

Hi Missie_Gail,
Please try to relax and be at peace. Forget about the '..if it is flat it is bad..' idea! I think I know where you are coming from but please that is like one 'symptom' that has to have every other test in place before it becomes meaningful. No one will know any final result until after all of the tests are in place.
I know what it is like to worry over a sick child.
Please keep in touch with what is up. Folk here really care.
Am praying for Henry and yourself.

Hi ,
I can totally understand why you are concerned and anxious . All I can say is in the nine years I have been here on behalf of my mum I have never seen this . It would be extremely rare, beyond rare.
Hopefully they will get those results back to you quickly and give you peace of mind .
Take care,
Stu

We have folks that come here with symptoms that they are worried about and there are a lot of things that people have that aren't necessarily GI cancer. They get a colonoscopy and biopsy if needed and know within a week.

GI cancers are usually quite slow-growing so a few days won't matter.

I do know how you feel, though, as I was worried with treatment delays when I was starting out and I do know what it is like when kids do have very scary health problems and you're waiting for results. It's awful stuff and I will say that worrying doesn't make it better but it's very hard not to worry.

Good News!

Results of biopsy indicate it is a Lymphoid hyperplasia and non cancerous. Praise God! He goes back in early September, for a follow-up.

Yes many, many hugs and kisses have been given. :D
Dr. said Nodular Lymphoid Hyperplasia is fairly rare, but often times it will resolve by itself and no surgical procedure required. This is what were praying for now. Just knowing it is there and that it could result in a cancer is something I pray we don't have to live with. However, if we do, I am glad I found this group.

Again, I have to thank everyone for the kind words and support.

Continued prayers for all
