Question about chemo side effects

Postby dauofcamom » Thu May 24, 2018 4:09 pm

This may be wishful thinking but my mom doesn’t seem to be experiencing any severe side effects on the Xelox regime...so far. She started her chemo last Wednesday. About three days after her infusion of oxaliplatin, she had mild tingling, cold sensitivity and was tired and lost her appetite. That lasted about two and a half days but now she says she feels perfectly normal although she’s been on the capecitabine for eight days so far.

My question is those of you who had mild symptoms the first round, did it stay that way? Or did it get significantly worse as the rounds went on?

I don't want to rain on your parade but my side effects got worse with each cycle. First time was kind of a trip, next few have been stronger, longer and more uncomfortable.

Xeloda is not a big deal from what I see. Sides effects are minimal if none. Oxi is the real pain in the BUTT...Neuropathy its biggest sidekick, first bite syndrome (jaw cramping), cold sensitivity, not able to drink even room temp water which usually happens on 2nd cycle. I am currently doing another six rounds to be preventative. I hate it. But gotta do everything I can.

My side effects got worse each cycle. I had to have the doses of both reduced more than once

Mine also got worse and more prolonged -- however, I also learned how to manage them better and could predict what each day would bring. I remember the 5th cycle I felt like I got hit by a truck and was basically in bed for two days. The 6th and last cycle I had the Oxi reduced by 50% due to neuropathy in my feet. I continued to take the full Xeloda as I tolerated that much better.

Thank you for your responses. I am a realist and this is what I suspected. First round being fairly easy. I am heading back home next week and won’t be here with my mom for the next few rounds. I want to be able to prepare my dad and brother and aunt for what they can expect.
