Worried wife...

Postby Mohrfamily » Tue May 22, 2018 4:34 pm

There are no coincidences in life. If god knows us better than our spouses, our parents, then he knew my stubborn husband with the stressing diesel mechanic job with insurance would never go see a doctor on his own. An "if it ain't broke" guy to a T. He was laid off from his job, and began to get abdominal pain, thinking it was lactose intolerance he changed his diet and cut out alcohol. Better but still dull ache. Caused enough concern that again, god knew if he went on my insurance (which he did) he would get routine bloodwork done. Knowing full well that if those results were bad he'd be in the doctors office. 5 months from then and today we were finally told, after an ultrasound, 2 CT scans and a PET scan its stage 4 metastatic CRC the mets to the liver.
Chemo is next week after putting in a port, fluflox? Any encouragement? Keep me away from Google please!
DH dx stage IV liver mets largest 6x6.4 cm
Colonoscopy/endoscopy/port place 5/29
4cm mass in splenic flexure
1st round FolFox 5/30
08/2018 new CT no new lesions, clear lungs, slight decrease in colon.
3/2019 PET scan shows greater than 6-7 liver mets largest measuring 3x3 cm. No growth nothing new.
8/15/19 largest liver lesion 1.9x2.1
9/16/2019 OSU to proceed with surgery implant HAI and colon resection
11/19 resection of colon HAI placed
2/20 CEA back to 1000s, liver worse than when we began-start FOLFIRI

Hi there,
I feel for you going through all of this. I must admit I am a bit like your husband, being stubborn about medical things.... we come like that..LOL :D
It will be a challenge ahead but you have heaps of friends here.
Please pass on my regards to your husband '..one stubborn guy to another..'! Tell him not to forget about the important issues in life; ie
1-Yourself! Highest priority as you carry quite a load... I see my wife suffering over my cancer and it hurts. So bless you heaps!
2- Football (I am in New Zealand so it is Rugby football) and motorbikes.... Haha

Seriously though do keep in touch. Folk here know what it is like and we care about you both.

Hi ”Worried wife”,
Welcome to this good Forum, sorry you had to join.
I think I understand how you feel (see my signature).
You said: ”Keep me away from Google please” and you are right - it is much better to read here.
I have saved this post with good info for newly diagnosed https://coloncancersupport.colonclub.co ... 98#p474558
It includes a link how to add a signature. That is very good to do/have and personally I learned important things to know while creating mine.
Best of luck going forward. Ask questions and read here is the best advice I can give.
Kind regards /LPL

Thanks to all. My insurance provides a nurse doing behind the scenes work and is facilitating a second opinion with Cleveland clinic with a doctor who specializes in colon and helped write the NCCN guidelines for colon Cancer.

Best of luck with the second opinion. But no matter what the diagnosis, know that you and your husband can and must handle it in a positive manner and with a positive mindset. One day at a time and stay away from google. No person's diagnosis is the same as another. The two of you and your doctors will formulate a plan just for you. Hang in there! Andre
2/10/14 - Colon resect
2/13 - DX- Stage IIIb
6 of 18 lymph nodes cancerous
3/7 - Port placed
3/11 - FOLFOX (12 rds w/full oxi)
8/14 - Chemo finish
8/25 - CT- Inc
9/5 - clean PET
12/10- clean CT

3/2/15 - Clean colonoscopy & port removed
3/4 - clean CT
9/21- clean CT

3/23/16 - clean CT

2/22/17- clean CT

3/21/18 - clean CT
4/1 - clean colonoscopy

3/11/19 - clean CT
9/23 - Five-year release - Annual visits now !

4/13/23 - clean colonoscopy

ONE DAY AT A TIME !

Its hard to believe it's been a year.

1 year he had routine bloodwork done

1 year since that bloodwork put us on the path

In April we found the biopsy results to determine it was cancer.

He's still alive and kicking the hell Put off this cancer.
