Never be scared of a better look of what needs to be addressed by your treatment plan. All information for your doctor is good information to make your plan of treatment.

The scan is done to mark where your cancer is currently identified. The good news, after treatment, you can hope to see the scan results getting better with things shrinking and disappearing. Marking where the disease is currently at, allows you to measure the success of your treatment plan.

Good luck moving forward.

Scan are always scary but as the doctor said, standard procedure that every patient has to undergo unfortunately. On a positive note, hopefully you'll get some relief after the results knowing that the cancer is just confined to a few specific areas which is a helluva lot more treatable and potentially curable.

Here's my story when I was first diagnosed.

Found the primary during a colonoscopy due to bleeding I've had. CT scan was ordered which also found the primary but also two lesions in my liver. At this point we didn't know if it was metastatic spread. These lesions were 3cm in size so not that small. A PET was ordered as another check. These two lesions came up benign on the PET. I consulted with a liver specialist where I got the results of the scan. My liver specialist said this was good news but to be sure it wasn't a false negative, he wanted to biopsy the areas during my laparoscopic procedure to remove the primary the next day. The biopsies were done and sent to pathology for immediate examination. If they came back positive, he would proceed to do an open procedure and perform a liver resection. The samples came back benign. So the spots were ruled as hemangiomas. All of this was back in December of 2012.

Since then, I've had 2 more PET scans which those spots did not light up and numerous CT scans which showed no change to the spots.

So there might be hope about those liver spots.
