Stage IV - Off chemo two years

Postby crazylife » Mon Apr 30, 2018 4:45 pm

Wanted to share that DH is approaching two years off chemo as a stage IV patient. He did the initial 6 months of folfox as mop-up to his liver and colon resection. He then had 5 spots pop up in his lungs which were removed in November and January of this year.

Anyone else have similar experiences without chemo intervention at stage IV?

Hi ,
Good to hear your husband is doing so well . My mum has not had chemo since 2010 . Surgery for one lung met two years ago but no chemo . Nine years as a stage 4 patient . She is awaiting her recent scan results .
Her oncologist decided to only use chemo on visible disease and so it continued .
I wish your husband every success.
Take care,

I don't know if I fit your question, but.....

I was Stage III in Jan. 2009 and had my colon resection and 6 months FOLFOX. In April 2012 I had a 1.5 cm liver met removed (80% of my liver) but NO FOLLOW UP CHEMO.

That's 6 years since my liver resection with no recurrences. Stats show that at 6 1/2 years, those without mets are CURED.

In the entire study population, the probability of being cured from CLM was 20 % (95 % confidence interval 16.5–23.5). After the first year, the mortality excess of resected patients, in comparison to the general population, starts to decline until it approaches zero 6 years after surgery. After 6.48 years, patients alive without tumor recurrence can be considered cured with 99 % certainty.

Present study shows an 80% 3-year survival rate (and a 71% 5-year survival
rate) after HR and well-established data showing 10- and 20-year survivors
after HR of solitary and multiple metastases, even without adjuvant
chemotherapy.
