Biopsy results are in

Postby Rikimaroo » Wed Apr 25, 2018 3:27 pm

I met with my chemo doctor today to go over biopsy from the surgery I did on April 3rd

All 8 lymph nodes removed cleared negative

The only concern was that margin were not clean meaning CRM positive.

This mean chance of recurrence is higher. Anyone else get this result and got past this without recurrence?

They want me to meet with the radiation doctor to discuss possible some radiation however this would mean radiation in the same area and there debating if to do. This would most likely include xeloda pills then some folfox afterwords.

Any advice thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Oh no this is disappointing to hear
Maybe this is a silly suggestion, but can u go back.into SURGERY to remove more, to obtain clean margin, id imagine chemo would most certainly be a must!!!!
Ive a tight margin going into surgery also so hoping for a good outcome but mine I so low it cant b repeated
My surgon wont do double radiation but maybe ask ur oncoligist about BRANCHYTHERPY??? This might b a better option thank standard chemoradiation???
I hope u come to a sucessfull decission

Sorry to hear that, it must be really disappointing, I thought we got our maximum dose radiation with 50 gray to the pelvis. Was chemo already in the plans? I don’t have any advice but I wish you a good recovery without reoccurrence!

All the best

I had chemo before the surgery 6 rounds. The doctor said being the circumferential margin of resection shows tumor deposit they want to do possibly more radiation, or just chemo therapy. The goal is to just reduce potential recurrence. I don't know how to think of this.

I think I will be fine and be ned, as there are people in worse case then me that go ned. But at the same time, you know how the mind works and the what ifs.

I meet with my surgeon on May 14th and he may suggest we go back in and get the rest out now that he got biopsy results or he may say do the chemo and your going to be fine.

Time will tell and we will see.

Well some good news again today. Spoke with Chemo Dr. and he said that my CEA is now .8

As you all know it was 500 at one point. He also said don't stress the CRM positive it could mean there is some residual cancer cell and they will hopefully get knocked out by radiation and chemo. But with such a low CEA I am and should be NED at the moment.

I needed this news cause I been a little stressed/depressed about the non clear margins. I still have some fight to go through but this positive news helps alot.
