Loco-Regional Hyperthermia

Postby Canada777 » Mon Apr 23, 2018 2:39 pm

Has anyone heard much about loco- regional hyperthermia or tried it? DH will be trying this with FOLFIRI for the next few cycles too see if it helps shrink an isolated recurrence to his pelvis. There is some data this can be effective but not much...so since it can compliment the chemo he's already getting we figured it couldn't hurt to try.
DH dx. Stage 4 Colon cancer with Peri mets Dec '15 @ age 29
12 Rounds FOLFOX & then successful HIPEC in 2016. Diagnosis changed to appendix cancer.
Recurrence to pelvis 9 months later.
Years of chemo.
At rest. Sept 2021.

No personal experience to share BUTT if you check the page, there are a number of known methodologies which folks here have used.

I’d say there’s no evidence to either support or debunk the practice. But my take on all these non-conventional therapies is as long as it doesnt hurt you or interfere with conventional therapy (the assumption is you are getting evidence-based treatment) then it’s ok.

Anecdotally, at one point I purchased and used an electric heating mat which claimed to emit far infrared rays. Not sure of the science behind it is similar to what the OP is considering. I can’t say that it hurt (it helped me with some back pain) but it didn’t prevent recurrence either.

Thanks for the link CRGuy. It is similar information to what we received. Plastikos- Yes we are doing it in conjunction with standard treatment.

He's had 2 sessions of it so far with no negative side effects. Another CT in about 8 weeks to see if it helped. I'll post the results in case anyone is interested.
