Probiotics and enemas

Postby susie0915 » Sun Apr 22, 2018 5:57 pm

I was just wondering if anyone here who does enemas also take a probiotic. I asked my GI if he felt it was necessary since I am doing enemas and he really didn't feel there was a need but I could take Align for a month and see how I feel. I feel fine, but just wondered if I needed to worry about replacing my good bacteria. I have read that most nutrition is absorbed in the small bowel and since enemas generally only empty the large bowel it is not a problem.

I think most bacteria are in the colon, but I don’think the enema wash them away, the surface of the colon is very «folded» and bacteria sticks to it.

My GI said the same thing. Really didn't think it was necessary, but if I wanted to take for a month and see if it makes any difference.
