Hi Mattie/Sue,
My son recently had a dye study on his
port. It would flush fine but only intermittently work when trying to draw blood from it. The study took about 15 minutes; he was awake for it & watched the pictures on the screen. Basically the
port is fine. The reason they can't draw from it is because the distal end is up against the vein. It's positional he was told. Sometimes it works to draw blood from it; but for his bloodwork, the lab uses an arm vein. He still gets chemo via the
port; it goes in just fine.
Probably the most painful thing about the procedure was the co-pay.
I I hope this helps you. Best wishes to you.
