Feeling very anxious port removal this afternoon

Postby JudiB » Thu Apr 19, 2018 1:54 am

Hello everyone, it's been a while since I visited but I so value your input when I am worried about something.

Today I will have my port out and mostly, I feel thrilled to be saying goodbye to it. My worry is that I saw a different surgeon, (mine was sick), the only one at the hospital who doesn't remove ports under general anaesthesia. I decided to go along with this because I want it out asp, but now the day is here, I'm wishing I'd waited to see my own surgeon. I know it's silly and lots of folk have only a local but I'm dreading it. Everyone I know has had general.
Does anyone have experiences that might reassure me please?
May 2004 Breast cancer lumpectomy followed by radiotherapy, Tamoxifen 5 years, then Femara 2 years.

March 2017 Chemo Folfox started. Oxaliplatin for 4 treatments, then just 5 FU and Leucovorin for remaining 8 treatments.
June 2017 clear scan
Last chemo August 2017
August 2017 clear scan
February 2018 clear scan

BUT I want to say CONGRATS to you becoz it is rely a good news. It means you are doing well.

Hopefully anyone with similar experience will provide some input.

I had one taken out with just a local and it didn't bother me at all. Just a little tugging, but no pain. You will do great I'm sure!

Thanks folks!
Port out now and I have it in a jar as a trophy!
The surgeon gave me the max amount of anaesthetic so still no pain 2 hours after procedure!
Worst bit was the injections but I didn't feel a thing after that! Bit of a smell of burning flesh when cauterised but nothing more!
I feel a bit euphoric as today is a big landmark as port gone says chemo all done and dusted!
I now feel like a bit if a wimp for making a fuss! I always said that, after chemo, they can do anything to me but still went all wimpy over this little procedure.

Congratulations JudiB! I must say I'm envious, and hopefully will be in your shoes soon.
I will need another clear scan in next month or two. I'll be overly delighted to be rid of my Third Nipple! Hah.
May you never need another! Long live NED.
