Lung mets after HIPEC

Postby AJQ » Mon Apr 09, 2018 10:27 pm

Hello friends,

I have not posted for a while as I was recovering from HIPEC and then started working full time. Had my scan on Jan 30th this year which showed 2 lung nodules (6mm, 2mm). I am on watch and wait and my next scan is in 2 weeks.
so far I feel OK with the exception of some leg weakness and little shortness of breath.

Anyone with similar lung mets from Colorectal cancer? I would appreciate sharing your experience, symptoms and recommendations.
I am looking at all options, SBRT, Chemo and immunotherapy.

Thankx
AJ

Hi,
I have a metastasis in one lung, it was already there at diagnosis in October and had a diameter of 0.8 cm. One month ago, after removal of the main tumor, they took a core needle biopsy and determined that it is a metastasis from CRC and decided to wait three months before taking a new CAT scan and, if it is still solitary, remove it. What they told me is that these metastases grow quite slowly and do not produce new metastases, so it was better to wait before doing a VATS wedge surgery, so that we give some time to other metastases that might be present, to show up on the CAT scan.

All the best

I forgot to say that when they are so small they do not give any simptoms.

Hi Claudia,

Thank you. This is very helpful and inline with what my docs said. The nodules are so small they want to wait and see if they grow and remain only two then they recommended SBRT.

AJ, Did scan reveal anything more? There is a lot on this site re: lung thangs; in fact there was a thread titled "Lung Thang Gang" if I remember correctly, but i couldn't find it through search box. But like I said, you don't have to look far on this site to find information.

How about an update when you get around to it?

Hello Bitchslapped -
April scan revealed few more in the same lung but small. I am on an interesting targeted therapy( pill form) that is given to me as I match one of the amplification based on foundation tumor report. Also on light doze of Xeloda pills
There is hope and so far feeling ok.

Next scan in July

How is your friend doing?

Even if lung mets are less marker reactive, I would measure and talk about CA199 and LDH at least once, Various highs and lows are useful too.

We had three 6mm lung thingies to deal with at dx.
After a year of varied immunochemo combinations, an oral 5FU prodrug with supplements, cimetidine, high vitamin D3, IV vitamin C and vitamin K2, and later various beta glucans including PSK and WGP:
one lung thingy disappeared, one turned to stone (wife had a period of upper limit calcium levels ~10.x), one thingy just sits there. Some of her success is due to matching or watching the extra markers and blood tests to continuously attack the cancer.

After several years, celecoxib became a necessary component, too.
watchful, active researcher and caregiver for stage IVb/c CC. surgeries 4/10 sigmoid etc & 5/11 para-aortic LN cluster; 8 yrs immuno-Chemo for mCRC; now no chemo
most of 2010 Life Extension recommendations and possibilities + more, some (much) higher, peaking ~2011-12, taper chemo to almost nothing mid 2018, IV C-->2021. Now supplements
