cecal mass

Postby Nanny 10 » Sat Apr 07, 2018 11:35 am

My husband had colonoscopy yesterday. Results say R/O cecal mass. Doctor took a biopsy. Have an appointment in 2 weeks. Doctor says mass is soft. Husband feels a little uncomfortable where biopsy was taken. Can anyone tell me about this? What does it mean? What can I expect?

Could you please post a complete report.
In this case you would get a more specific feedback.

Caecum location is better than rectal, but worse than transverse. ;)
58 yo male at diagnosis: T1bN0M0, 0/15 nodes, low grade/moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma
03/2016 colonoscopy: 2 small polyps removed in left colon; CEA = 1.3
04/2016 colonoscopy: caecum sessile 3.5 cm polyp piecemeal removed with kind of clear margins
05/2016 "prophylactic" laparoscopic right hemicolectomy - bleeding, leak, infection
06/2017 CT scan, colonoscopy OK; CEA = 1.6
A lot of funny stuff discovered by CT scans in liver, kidney, lungs, arteries, gallbladder, lymph node, pancreas

The right-side colon includes the appendix, cecum, ascending colon, hepatic flexure, and transverse colon. I had my tumor in the cecum. You will have to wait for more specifics before you know what to expect. However, it is not worse than transverse. If it is cancer, your husband will need a right sided resection, which hopefully can be done laparoscopic. I was only in the hospital for 2 days and recovered quite well. The stage will depend on what will come next. In addition, if the dr says it is cancer, he will have a CT scan, and bloodwork. There are many on this forum that can help you through this journey.

Good luck and keep us informed.
