Colon rectal cancer found during routine colonoscopy
Unread postby Lotus » Thu Mar 29, 2018 8:20 pm
Dear friends,
This is my first post here. I am a 71 year old female. I went in for a routine colonoscopy last week and expected the results to be normal. I last colonoscopy was 10 years ago I had no polyps at that time so they told me to come back in 10 years. The doctor found a polyp that he said measured 2.5 cm x 2.5 cm and he said it was 13 cm from the end of my colon.
Welcome! My mom was diagnosed exactly one year ago one week before Mother's day. My mom just took her last chemo med on May 10! Just like you, I was scared for my mom. I felt as though since I was with her all the time since we live two door down from each other, I felt as thought I was typing for her as her caretaker. This forum is so supportive. Just like Anne and Mike mentioned ( I met them on here too and they had same DX as my mother, and my mother is 78, much older) She had a longer surgery too, almost 5 hours and her recovery was very rocky) My biggest advice, find a board certified colorectal surgeon. I think i found my mom the best surgeon on the west in CA. He was the CHIEF surgeon at USC Keck medicine. His reviews were amazing and I even talked to his patients. My mom stayed at the hospital after surgery for 7 days which is longer than most. She ended up having a C section, and she developed a sac full of pus so she got admitted shortly after discharge. Then she back at hospital for 4 days and then discharged. She did great after anti-biotics. The pain killers made her feel weak, no appetite It is a long process, but with patience and time, you will get through. I had to force my mom to get a colonoscopy, the dr. had her get so many scans, he missed it. I truly believe I saved my mother's life! <3 As stubborn as she is, she somehow chanted through it. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. <3
