Hello all. I had my last colonoscopy 3 and a half years ago, at age 50. The doctor's notes say they removed two 5mm sessil polyps and one inflamatory polyp. They told me to re-test in three years. I forgot to do the re-test, though. I did not realize three years has passed already. So I just made an appointment. It will be three and a half years. I hope the 5-6 month delay will not cause a problem! I am really worried that my own delay could cause me a problem.
Meanwhile, I got the pathology report from my last colonoscopy. I had not bothered to get it until now. It says the two polyps were "tubular adenomas -- negative for high grade dysplasia." Isn't a tubular adenoma different than a sessil polyp? I wonder why the GI doc would have written sessil polyp but the pathologist write in the bx report that it is tubular?
Also the gross description of the polyps mentions that one of them came to the pathology lab in fragments, and that the fragments aggregate to 13mm. If the "polypoid fragments" aggregate to 13mm, does that mean it was a 13 mm polyp? If that is right, then the GI doc (who has a terrific reputation) would have been WAY off when he estimated it at 5mm. Hard to imagine he would be that far off. I am thinking that maybe adding up the measurement of the fragments in the pathology sample might not be the same as the size of the polyp. I dont know why that would be, though, unless there is some other "gunk" in the sample, in addition to the polyp itself.
Anyway, because i am nervous (see my name), I am worried that maybe I had a larger polyp than the GI doctor reported, and was therefore much higher risk, and now i have waited longer than i should have for my re-test.
Unlike many, I am not afraid of the colonoscopy test. The night before is annoying, but for me the whole thing is no big deal. I am MUCH more afraid of the results.
Any insights from those who know more than i do, about the situation I outlined above?
Thank you!!
