Emergency Room Trip

Postby mhf1986 » Tue Mar 13, 2018 8:44 pm

Well that was fun...DH was complaining about shortness of breath Sunday evening. He also seemed warm. Temp showed 101.3 at 8:45 p.m. Up to 101.7 at 9:15...call dr. He says get to the emergency room and prepare to stay overnight. He called ahead and they saw us almost immediately. Temp over 102. Blood work, EKG, flu swab, chest xray...4 hours later and they don't have a cause. Gave him Tylenol and an antibiotic prescription and sent us home! I guess they never find the reason for the fever in some of these cases. Temp has never gone above 100 since. Given the sepsis and collapsed lungs during surgery in 2016, I am trying to be very mindful of anything "off."

Good news is all blood counts are much better than 10 days ago so oncologist wants to do treatment Thursday. It's been 4 weeks since the last one, it was 7 weeks before that because of high bilirubin. I don't like to think what's growing in between these sporadic infusions.

Thanks for listening,
M

That must have been so frightening for you both. Home is so much better than a hospital, glad you didn't have to stay overnight.

Infusion went fine today. Dr. ordered a CA 19-9 test today, first time for it. He normally just orders a CEA every month.

Cold and flu season has been really rough - there's a lot of stuff out there and a lot of people have died of the flu this year. So no problem being careful when immuno-compromised on chemo. Glad things worked out.
