Open surgery wound 4 months later

Postby AlexMichelle » Fri Mar 02, 2018 4:52 pm

Anyone else have issues with their body spitting out the disolveable stitches before they dissolved and causing open wounds which blister and bleed? I have been seeing my surgeon once per week for him to look at it and cauterize it. He has packed it and just put me on oral antibiotics in case there is an infection because there is a redness all around. The area is above the bellybutton and all the way around the belly button. This week some blisters formed at the incision and lots of blood came out and then the area looked better and was not as sore to touch. It was as if all of that blood needed to get out and found an opening to do so. I have been using topical anabiotic's before I was put on the oral anabiotics yesterday. I have to go back to see the surgeon again next Friday for him to evaluate it. Has anyone else had issues with their open surgery wounds healing?

That sounds awful. Sorry you're going through this stuff.

I haven't heard of this before.

They used staples on me and the surgeon eventually yanked them out with pliers.

It sounds like the stitches broke down before they were supposed to.

I'd stay in close touch with your surgeon.

my husband had this problem too- Areas at the incision site of a laparotomy became red and inflamed with some fluid filled areas about 6 months post-op. Settled down with oral antibiotics and no problems since that time..

Thank you. Just finished oral antibiotics last night. Fingers crossed the holes all start healing quickly. Have to go back to doctor again Friday so he can determine what to do next. Glad your husband's wounds healed. Each day when I take off the gauze, I'm afraid to see what has taken place underneath it.
