Just finally getting back to this forum. It's been a hell of a week in my professional life!

jep -- the oncologist originally thought he would need 2 months chemo - liver surgery - then 4 months "mop up" chemo. But, that was when we thought that the spot on segement 5 could be cancerous and we also did not know how well he would respond to those 2 initial months of CAPEOX. Now, post-surgery, his oncologist does not recommend any more chemo.

They consider him "cured" for now. NED.

It's funny because I originally was sooooo anti-chemo and now I am left wondering -- are we sure this is the route to take???? My husband is following his doctor's recommendation and I'm counting my blessings, which these days are few and far between.

I have a few threads that I started on this forum and I chose this one to update (in the hope that I will be posting continued great news as time goes on). Husband goes to Mass General Hospital next week for his first scan (CT) since his liver surgery which was 2/28/18. I can't believe that was less than three months ago. It feels like ages. So much has happened in our lives over the past year or so that time is now becoming a blur.

Fingers crossed next week goes well. I don't think I can handle bad news at this time in my life.

My wife had such a similar thing happen to her. We thought she would have the full 12 rounds of folfox plus avistan but after surgery she had such clear margins and only two positive nodes with great response from the radiation and first six rounds of chemo they decided that more chemo was not needed. She was happy i was nurveous. I wanted an insurance policy so to speak but I wasn’t the one being poisoned.

Thanks, Mike and tater.

Tater, glad to know that my husband isn't alone in the recommendation to not do "mop up" chemo.

That is great news. I remember a good chunk of your ordeal and can empathize as you're in my neck of the woods and use MGH. The port removal will be a big psychological milestone. Both of you can get back to almost normal (with the surveillance stuff - but not very often).

Thanks, Lee and NHMike. Now I just anxiously wait a month to discuss my own test results with my doctor. Getting old really bites!

I recall that you had some medical stuff to deal with but I don't think that it was cancer. Still, there are a lot of other things that can happen that are problems too.

BTW, I recommend tree nuts (everything but peanuts) to help reduce the chances of recurrence for your husband.
