Side effects question

Postby ilovemyfrenchie » Mon Feb 19, 2018 11:04 am

Good morning!

I have a question. My mom gets Folfiri + avastin every 2 weeks and has gotten 8 treatments so far. Since starting Chemo she has little side effects with the typical disconnect days side effects of diarrhea and fatigue for 3 days, no nausea. But now she’s been having nausea/vomiting on chemo day and then the rest of the week. My question is does the side effects get worse as the treatments go on? I asked the oncologist and she said it shouldn’t and that it should stay the same throughout the chemo treatments. Her CEA numbers has been decreasing each time and her colostomy bag output has been the same. Appetite good, when she’s not feeling nausea.

Just curious.
Daughter to 59 yo w/ Stage 4 Mets to liver & peritoneal
10/1/17 ER trip for GI bleed found rectal tumor (CEA 71)
10/2/17 emergency colostomy (no resection, told tumor inoperable due to Mets found)
10/17 started Folfiri with Avastin (CEA 171)
8/18 CT = liver Mets continue to shrink (CEA 4)

“Chemo for life” hoping for surgery soon

I found my side effects built up and got worse as they went along. After having folfiri + avastin treatments for about a year the nausea got worse and I was sick a few times. They continued to build over the next year, although we were able to manage them a bit with new medicine, before we stopped folfiri and switched to a different plan.
