oxaliplatin

Postby Beloved fiancée » Wed Feb 14, 2018 1:07 pm

Hello warriers
My beloved fiancé had to reduce his oxaliplatin from 191.25 mg to 152 mg due to extremely fatigue. I would like to hear if any of you had to drop the dosage. What is the common dosage you all started and then dropped to?

Just worried about the therapy effect!

I don't know what my actual doses were, but my oxaliplatin dose was reduced twice during treatment due to side effects. My oncologist said that it is still effective, even at the reduced dose.

Mine was reduced once due to weight loss. I'm not sure what actual dosage level was. I don't think it's unusual for doctors to drop dosage levels to help curtail side effects. There is a range I think they work with, as I know when my oncologist had to reduce dose of my xeloda for a second time due to diarrhea he mentioned that he didn't want to drop it much more. I'm sure the dosage level is still within therapeutic range.

Like others, I don't know the dosages I received but mine was dropped at least once -- maybe twice-- because of peripheral neuropathy.

I had my last dosage dropped to 50% because of fatigue and some neuropathy. My onc was even open to cancelling it because it was the last one.

My onc immediately reduced the dosage when I told him I was getting some neuropathy in my fingertips. I don't know what my dosage was before/after.
I'm just a dude who still can't believe he had a resection and went through chemo (currently 12 years NED). Is this real life?

I've known 3 people IRL who had oxaliplatin, and while I don't know the actual dosage all three had to have their dose reduced because of either fatigue or severe neuropathy.

Just worried about the therapy effect!

I have found the exact dosages may vary according to specific chemo protocol, patient's health status / comorbidities and different cancer centers' "preferences".

When I started FOLFOX ( June 2010 ) the standard oxaliplatin dosing I received was 85 mg/m² BSA for 9 cycles
and it was reduced to about 65 mg/m² BSA for the next 3 cycles due to significant neuropathy.... = the dirty dozen of FOLFOX for me
[[ since chemo doses were based on BSA (Body Surface Area) ... it would all depend on your BF's BSA as to the exact doses received,
BUTT it appears to be about a 20% reduction which is in line with what I had. ]]

The therapy effect .... ??????
I am still here 8 years later, after finishing that chemo ... SO ......
so far ... so good

Best wishes

I had my third round 10 days ago. The dosage is based on weight and I had the dosage reduced to 80%. I still have cold sensitivity ten days later though the warmer temperatures have helped. I still can't drink anything room temperature or colder. I still have fatigue as well though it declines with time.

I was okay after the first infusion and the second hit me like a ton of bricks. I couldn't believe how bad it was and felt like quitting the rest of the treatment. We also waited an extra week between the second and third and it was a BIG help.

My term for Oxiliplatin is "Brutal". It's different for everyone but most people that I've heard from have a tough time with it.

I also had my dosage reduced due to Neuropathy and then had to stop because I became allergic. 8 years later, I'm still cancer free, so what I did get must've worked.

Best of luck to you,
