New "Universal" Cancer Vaccine is under development at Stanford University

Postby boswind » Thu Feb 01, 2018 9:20 am

Stanford University just announced that they are developing a cancer vaccine. A clinical trial with 15 patients will start soon.

We know there is no FDA approved cancer vaccine yet for treatment. The lead researcher Dr Levy states the vaccine contains two components activating the T-cells in the tumors. The mice study shows that if the vaccine is injected into one tumor, not only will the affected tumor shrink and disappear, but also the other tumors of the same type in the different locations will disappear as well.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/artic ... ccine.html

We understand in the past many potential cancer vaccines failed all to show effectiveness. We hope this 2nd generation of Cancer Vaccine will succeed. If it does succeed, It will be definitely a true and big break-though.

Here is a link to the paper recently published in Science Translational Medicine:

http://stm.sciencemag.org/content/10/426/eaan4488

The abstract is available to read by the public. Subscription required to read the full Text. This is quite amazing result but be aware its still going to be a while before human trials. This is a study in Mice only right now. It requires the tumor to be injected. This is similar to the effect that is shown by injection of Rose Bengal (in a formulation called PV-10 they have been having success with in Melanoma).

Also have a look at the SD-101 and DV-281 drugs by Dynavax which also work on TLR9:

http://www.dynavax.com/our-pipeline/can ... notherapy/

Lots of interesting ways to pump up the immune system to fight cancer. Coming up with a universal one that can be effective at advanced stages of disease will be the real test!

Thanks - I pop in from time to time still now after the passing of my wife back in Jun of last year. I don't comment much unless I have something to contribute. Mostly support of Maia and Tom (DK) but now that Tom is gone there seems to be less of that sort of scientific exchange going on, and I don't have as much desire for researching things as I did when motivated by my wife's condition. I've little time to dig very deep now that I am responsible for everything in our household myself. Work, dogs (8), horse, pigeons (18), house yard etc. I broke 5 ribs back the beginning of November in a fall off my wife's horse, (Trying to keep him fit) which slowed me down for a while. It was the weekend of what would have been our 35th anniversary.

Take care and good luck.

(((GrouseMan)))

Thinking of you. 5 ribs, so sorry, that must have been awful "painful". Hope you are doing tons better.

Yes we lost a few good people this past year, your wife, Brownbagger, Tom and BeansMama, just to name a few. I pray for the day, there is a cure for this horrible disease.

Take care of yourself,
