The Burzynski Clinic

Postby justbreathe » Thu Jan 25, 2018 2:17 pm

My husband wants to try this clinic out. He seems to think this will cure his cancer. I want a cure for his cancer just as much as he does but my gut feeling tells me this is not a good idea. The cost alone we cannot afford without going into extreme debt but there are too many red flags and no reports on positive outcomes.
He is at the point of looking in any direction other than more chemo and I fully understand but as his wife the thought of this just terrifies me. Please someone give me information that will help me talk him out of this.
I'm just not sure what to do. If this had proof of great success rate I'd be booking flights instead of writing this post but I'm not finding that info anywhere.

He also just had me order DCA Dichioracetate 500 mg capsules. Any thoughts on this would be helpful also.

He is wanting to go for more natural approaches to boost his immune system so even info on natural remedies will help at this point.

I don't know anything about the clinic but I found this Newsweek article that might be worth reading:
http://www.newsweek.com/2016/03/04/stan ... 29057.html

As far as immune boosting natural remedies, Vitamin C via IV has been very helpful for me but I'm receiving it in addition to chemo. I'm also receiving an IV of quercetin twice a week and my blood work has shown a significant decline in inflammation and a protein that has something do with cell proliferation. I did my own research on pubmed and on the About Herbs app before starting any natural treatments, and everything I'm doing has the blessing of my oncologist.

Very interesting clinic. I personally would not recommend it to my husband (who has metastatic CC). If I was a colon cancer patient, I don't think that this would be a place I would consider. Why?
The focus seems to be on glioblastomas, which are not colon tumors. I think conventional medicine has come a long way in tailoring chemo to cancer and tumor type. The Burzynski treatment might work for patients with glioblastomas, but that does not mean it is effective for colon cancer patients.

I wouldn't for several reasons. Burzynski was more of a leader in sales, legal and political aspects of alternative medicine 20-30- yrs ago, not so much in actual scientific results or benefits for the individuals. His "neoplastons" represented an interesting concept, academically ~40 years ago and achieved great noteriety 20-25 yrs ago with lots of sizzle in the wars with FDA and the mob psychology of desperate patients and parents. His published results on colon cancer were unimpressive even years ago. His new approach, addition of expensive biologics way off label would likely be uncomfortable and risky.

On top of that, he's expensive. IMO, you might do better elsewhere with advice from multiple sources in the US, Germany or even some in Mexico but much is of questionable bang for the bucks. Even if you're rich.

It doesn't have to be expensive. We've done better at home, consulting conventional and alternative doctors, while using global research literature in alternative and experimental medicine with inexpensive generic drugs and very high potency supplements, guided by more comprehensive bloodwork. Low cost and free information from Riordan Clinic and Life Extension Foundation in the US has been more useful for us but this required some effort to implement. There is a fair amount of useful discussion on the forums.

I think your husband is grasping at straws with Burzinski, with the classic sales appeal of Fear, Uncertainty, and Desire generated by all the hoopla, advertising and drama over the years. There were much better options for us in terms of comfort, cost, and results, albeit some DIY to combine chemo and stronger natural approaches. Financial endurance is important, if you blow all your money in one spot, you have fewer options after that.

Performance wise I think IV vitamin C is better than DCA to interfere with the glucose cancer metabolism of KRAS/BRAF mutants; IV C has other benefits too, and without the neurological issues.
watchful, active researcher and caregiver for stage IVb/c CC. surgeries 4/10 sigmoid etc & 5/11 para-aortic LN cluster; 8 yrs immuno-Chemo for mCRC; now no chemo
most of 2010 Life Extension recommendations and possibilities + more, some (much) higher, peaking ~2011-12, taper chemo to almost nothing mid 2018, IV C-->2021. Now supplements

Zephyr,
can I ask about ur VIT C DOSAGE???
MY oncologist won't let me take anything ( herbal/intergrative) while on chemo and I'm only on treatment 18/25 but I plan on doing 6 weeks of IV vit c during the break before surgery to aim to shrink my rectal tumor Evan more
There is a local GP, who provides this service along with chelaton,
So I'm curious to hear ur opinion and Expierance with it
I give my son ( with cf) Liposomal v C and I would have done that in huge doses if I didn't find a reputable doc to provide IV vit C
BRRZNSKY, obviously we will try anything if were faced with our morality
But in this case I think much more reaserch should b done on this clinic
High dose curcumin is another option, along with VIT C
But I again will not start until after my chemoradiation
STAY WELL

Best to stick with one of the many great legitimate cancers centers such as Sloan-Kettering or MD Anderson, and avoid the quacks selling snake-oil at very high prices.

Burzynski and some followers had lots of problems with Medical Boards and the FDA in past years = I did not follow the outcomes because I think it is quackery.
The "ASCO cancer net" page has some useful info clarifying what integrative and alternative treatments are.

all the best
