Follow up at 5 year mark(next year)

My resection surgeon's office wrote back to me and said that after 5 years I will no longer have ct scans, tumor marker blood tests and will have colonoscopies every 5 years. I'm on their list for a colonoscopy in April of this year. I wrote back to the surgeon to check if they mean I still get checked next year(5 years) or if this year is the last year. I assume they mean next year is the last year. Does colonoscopies every 5 years seem to be a long time between them? I was stage 2a, didn't need chemo and have been in remission since surgery.

Wouldn't you have one more year after this year? Your were diagnosed in 2014 and it is 2018, that is only 4 years. Is it 5 years from diagnosis or when determined cancer free? I know it's only a couple months different for your case.
I just read your post again, you did mean 2019 right?

Yes I would assume that I would have tumor marker blood tests and ct scans in 2019 when it will be 5 years since diagnosis. I had a colonoscopy in 2015 which was clear and was told that I wouldn't have another colonoscopy for 3 years. In 2016 I saw a GI who performed a colonoscopy which was also clear. I think it's if in the 5th year following diagnosis nothing is found then one is declared cancer free. I could be wrong.
