I know Karen, me too. Literally.

Yes, it was a bumpy ride, but I really thought she'd gotten through the worst. I know that she knew the surgery and recovery would be risky, but like you said, she held nothing back. She'd do anything to overcome. She was a warrior through-and-through, and like you said, her leaving is a loss to the community here. I rest in the fact that she had a strong faith and that she is in God's arms. Even just the surgery was a huge thing for the doctors and hospital there in terms of future treatment for liver tumors near the artery, and of course for Lynch Syndrome testing and treatment. She left a legacy that will go well beyond her. I hope, somewhere, she knows that and feels all the love we have for her.

Rockhound, I don't know for sure, but I think maybe if she were still here she'd remind you that she *did* beat it. She was officially cancer-free after surgery. Yes, the surgery was rough and there were unfortunate complications, but the tumor was already dead when they removed it, so that gives a lot of hope with regard to treatment, even at stage IV. There are a lot of "what ifs" and "if onlys," but she never looked back. Keep the faith. Never stop fighting.

Yes that is the best thing- that she did beat it most likely! Having a bit of post-holiday letdown on my end, even considering I feel like I'm in a relatively good situation all things considered. Thanks!

That's what this group is all about. Understanding each other when we feel those down times, and reminding each other and passing along words of hope. Beansmama went through a lot, but ultimately the drugs targeted for lynch syndrome positive patients (like her) did kill the tumor, which is an incredibly positive thing for someone who went for so long with no positive results. It says a lot about the effectiveness of targeted therapies.

As her sister reminded me, most of the people in her family have been found to be lynch positive. Maybe even the Bean will be found to be. So by going through all of this, Beansmama might have saved all of them, including her daughter, and maybe some of the folks on this board as well.

I'm going to spread that news as far and wide as I can for her sake. :)

I was very saddened to hear this. She fought a good fight, and seems like she beat it to be blindsided by complications.

My medical oncologist refused to allow a root canal saying he cannot risk any sort of sudden shock to immune system while I am on a immunotherapy regime.
I discussed BeansMama and he said that surgery or any other sudden change can be fatal for patient on drugs like Opdivo or Keytruda since they are changing immune system rather than just strengthening it. Nobody knows how immune system will respond to any such perceived threat.
Don't know if it has anything to do with BeansMama , who is still in our thoughts.
People on immunotherapy, please be guard.
