Post surgery expected bowel movements

Postby sryall » Mon Dec 25, 2017 3:55 am

Wishing Everyone a blessed season...

I'm have my surgery in mid January. From what I've read it says that part of the function of the Cecum is absorbing water, salt and other nutrients. What effects long term will there be from having the surgery? My kidney Liver? Bowel movements?
I had a gastric sleeve done 3 years ago and I take supplements already (go me 150 lbs down and kept off) so I'm trying to plan for post surgery...

Thank you in advance. :D

Cecum is not doing anything.
Ileocecal valve is much more important.
Without this valve your digestive system need to relearn how to digest food.
It may take anywhere between few weeks and several years. :(

BTW, what kind of surgery do you expect?
58 yo male at diagnosis: T1bN0M0, 0/15 nodes, low grade/moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma
03/2016 colonoscopy: 2 small polyps removed in left colon; CEA = 1.3
04/2016 colonoscopy: caecum sessile 3.5 cm polyp piecemeal removed with kind of clear margins
05/2016 "prophylactic" laparoscopic right hemicolectomy - bleeding, leak, infection
06/2017 CT scan, colonoscopy OK; CEA = 1.6
A lot of funny stuff discovered by CT scans in liver, kidney, lungs, arteries, gallbladder, lymph node, pancreas

With the right ascending full not part (still learning the term) I'm thinking that's what they reattach to the trans?

Thanks for the input....
