Update on my man...maintenance for 1-2 yrs (?)

Postby jep » Sun Dec 24, 2017 6:30 am

Hi everyone! Merry Christmas Eve....hope you are able to spend some special time with loved ones this holiday season! Just wanted to check in as my DH just finished round 10 of Folfox....2 more to go! We were a bit shocked when his onc suggested at least a year (maybe 2) of xeloda + Avastin....he is technically stage 4, but that's only because of 1 distant lymph node....he's also had 2 clean scans since surgery... I'm totally supportive of this, as I want him to fight this with all options...my DH was pretty frustrated, but he seems more bothered by the surgical drain than the chemo....he actually said that 7 months with that drain has been worse than the chemo.
So, we are praying that after Folfox, and a break from treatment, this fistula will finally heal....any thoughts on the 1-2 yrs of maintenance?
Thank you everyone!

Hi Jep, was the distant lymph removed during surgery or show up on PET and disappeared during chemo? I know because I have distant lymph (now recurrence) that my oncologist said that cure is now off the table and back on folfiri w- avastin until it stops working. I wish your husband permanent NED.

The 1 distant lymph node was removed during emergency surgery....his surgeon is very confident that he got everything out....I feel that my DH should absolutely do the xeloda+Avastin, but of course it's his decision. I wish you all the best!

Awesome that the bad node was removed. Sounds like your oncologist wants to avoid recurrence and so I say go for it with the maintenance as hard as it sounds.
