Postby kiwiinoz » Wed Dec 06, 2017 12:28 am

Hi All

I have officially reached my 5 year mark from diagnosis on 05 December and am pleased to say, that despite a negative diagnosis I am still here and doing well.
Life has changed from thinking about cancer to being at work and struggling to keep work going and having to deal with day to day pressures. Whilst I don't necessarily enjoy those pressures I am pleased to have them as it means I am still here.

To those of you undergoing treatment, keep your chins up as there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

I still love coming to this site as it offered me so much hope and support when I needed it, which is why I keep returning.

Congrats to you. Are you considered cured now? I thought it was five years from finished treatment, but my oncologist told me it is 5 years from diagnosis. I'm so happy for you.

Hi Susie

I see my Oncologist in February 2018 which will be 5 years from last resection. I expect him not to mention the cured word and to keep me on some sort of surveillance

Sending you a virtual high five from across the world!
I'm just a dude who still can't believe he had a resection and went through chemo (currently 12 years NED). Is this real life?

Thanks for the good news. One of the other forums that I'm on has had a number of people in the past couple of days with difficult problems and sometimes that's discouraging and the long-term survival stories are a nice counterbalance. I know it's tough out there for a lot of people but there is hope; so nice time of the year for those successes.

As for work: I recall a decade ago when people worried that they didn't have enough work and were worried about layoffs. These days we have the opposite problem - lots of work and not enough people. It will eventually swing back the other way though. I look forward to work as it takes my mind off of cancer.

That is the key Mike. Staying busy and distractions from thinking about cancer. It can be tough even after you're finished with treatment. With all the follow up appointments, scans, bloodwork, side effects. I think I am going to volunteer after the first of the year. I don't want to go back to work, but really feel I need to do something productive. Have a nice Christmas.
