It’s so hard being nauseous all the time and hard to eat anything. Xanax helps a little bit . I’m on 3000 milligrams a day. Do you think the dr. Can change the dosage if Nausea continues . Ugh I hate the cold sensitivity. Feels like I have something in my throat and I keep forgetting about that first bite . Any advise I really appreciate it

You should not have to put up with nausea. Did they give you anti-nausea meds to take? My oncologist gave me Phenergan, Zofran and Ativan to have on hand to use as needed. During one cycle none of those worked for me, so the PA called in a prescription for Compazine. I started at 4000mg/day and had my dose reduced twice throughout due to side effects. Call your oncologist and let them know. Make sure you get some medication to help the nausea.

Not all side effects impact everyone equally. My cold sensitivity lasts two weeks, but I haven’t had any diarrhea or constipation.

There are 3 approved dose levels for Xeloda: 100%, 75%, and 50%. You are now on the 100% dose. They can reduce it to 75%. If they decide to do that, then your daily morning and evening doses would be different. Instead of taking 3 big 500mg tablets twice a day, you would be taking 2 big 500mg tablets plus one small 150mg tablet twice a day. You would still be taking 3 pills in the morning and 3 pills at night, but there would be a difference, because one of the three pills would be a small one.

Xeloda tablets only come in 2 sizes, large and small, so they often have to give you a split prescription containing some large tablets and some small tablets in order to get the dose level approximately right.

They can't just reduce your 3 pills to 2 pills, because that would he a dose level of 66.6%, and that level is not one of the authorized reduced-level doses.

You can ask if they can change your prescription to the authorized 75% level for the next round, and if they decide to do that you will be getting a prescription of some big pills (dark pink) and some small pills (light pink), and it's then up to you to take the right combination of the two types of pill in the morning and in the evening.

There are 7 categories of anti-nausea meds available (see link below). You were given Zofran, which is in the category "Serotonin (5-HT3) antagonists". There are 6 other categories of anti-nausea meds that could be tried if Zofran isn't working. For example, you could ask to try Compazine, which is in category "Dopamine antagonists".

If one med doesn't work, there are always others that can be tried.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I was still a little nauseous this morning but not as bad as yesterday. I’ll see how it goes . I did call my oncologist and left a message . I’ll just try to stick to this dosage because I don’t want to try to take it differently if they change , I might get confused or forget . I do have Ativan , compazine , and zofran . zofran don’t really work for me n I only take Xanax as needed . I know everyone is different but just curious when did the neuropathy n fatigue start for you. I’m doing 4 cycles so just wondering if it starts on the 2nd cycle or 3rd. I’m already feeling the fatigue but not too bad yet . Sigh I wish I was on my 4th already . Is it normal when your feet starts to get really cold sometimes. Thanks everyone

I think after my second infusion I noticed some tingling in my feet for a couple days. I didn't really have neuropathy that lasted until about after a month I finished treatments. I did 6 rounds of Xelox. My hands of gotten better, I used to drop things, and my feet don't hurt but I do have constant tingling and numbness. It hasn't stopped me from doing anything, I am able to exercise and run. It feels better if I keep moving and wear something on my feet. With 4 rounds it may not be too bad for you. Some get it during treatment and the dr can adjust the dosage of oxi. I really didn't so it was never reduced. Yes my feet did get cold a lot. They still do.

My hands are cold right now and I'm not on chemo. It's the cold weather in the Northeast and my cold office. We're supposed to get down to low single-digits later this week so going on Oxaliplatin should be interesting. I do have cold weather gear but it might not be enough. I'm glad that you can go running though - something that I may have to give up until my reversal.
