Postby bolksgolf » Fri Dec 01, 2017 5:23 pm

Hi there i have had a right hemicolectomy on the 27 th of november and have been discharged from hospital on the 29th of november. while in hospital and now at home i have been experiencing blood and clots when i open my bowels. Its concerning me and my question is, have others had the same experience and how long has it lasted. The bleeding has gone on for the last 4 days and dark red in colour.

My husband had the same procedure and had absolutely no bleeding post -op . You need to see a doctor S soon as possible ! This is very concerning. I am also a registered nurse of 30+ years. Good luck!

I had a right hemi and after a day in the hospital I started bleeding. I understand this was a leak caused by the surgery. I couldn't eat the first few days (no appetite) and just drank water, and the output, like you mentioned was dark red in colour. I was in the hospital for 6 days and it had pretty much cleared up by the time I left, without any intervention. So my bleeding lasted about 5 days, which is about where you are now.

It seem they discharged you, knowing of this problem, so did they give you any instructions? As others have said - let your doctor know if there is no improvement.

Thanks to all who responded, it's greatly appreciated and all advice has been taken. I would like to add on sunday opened my bowls with very small hardly noticable amount of blood. Monday morning blood returned a little and in the afternoon it was way less than morning. I am considering to go back to the hospital to have it looked into if bleeding does not stop in next few days. These are very uneasy times its my second dose of cancer prostate first and second hemi in the last 6 years im only in early fifties. I am all confused once again it feels good to have support.
