I had a few soon after my surgery, can't remember what there were. So long ago. Surgeon put something on them and they went away. What ever was put on my stoma did not hurt. When do you see your surgeon next? Mine was during a routine follow up from my surgery.

I haven't seen these on mine but I would have difficulty looking at them. I think that I'd only see them if I took a picture of them perpendicular to me. But my life does the lining up of the wafer for me and she likely would have mentioned something like that to me.

When was your surgery? I had some white spots on my stoma not long after surgery that turned out to be dead skin cells that eventually sloughed off. There is also always the chance that it is some sort of infection, you might want to check it out with your surgeon.

Chickspeed:
Yeast and fungal overgrowth is a common finding with an ileostomy. Yeast and fungal overgrowth often appears as tiny, dispersed white spots on the stoma itself as well as the perimeter of skin surrounding the stoma (peristomal skin).

Yeast and fungal overgrowth occurs because the ostomy wafer traps moisture from simple perspiration. The warmth of the body + retained moisture = a welcoming environment for yeast and fungus.

The fungal and yeast overgrowth is the same as Athlete’s foot.

Treatment for stomal yeast/fungus is Nyastin powder. You will need to ask your physician for a prescription of Nyastin powder. You should experience relief within 1-2 applications of Nyastin powder.

Homeopathic treatment with a plant called Violet Purple also has good results. Violet purple is in class/family of cactus and it is from the plant’s leaves/needles that a treating liquid is extracted. A holistic pharmacy would be able to direct you to Violet Purple. Beware as the extracted liquid is purple in color and does stain the skin and clothing a dark hue of purple.

I've been told yeast infection, jock itch and athlete's foot are all the same fungus. I got athlete's foot in high school, suspect I picked it up in the girls shower.

Yes I did develop a yeast infection around my stoma site soon after surgery. My Ostomy nurse recommends Micro-Guard Powder. Antifungal Powder with Miconazole Nitrate 2%.

I showed my surgeon the effected area, she recommend some oil based product  My Onc recommend some other oil based product  Ostomy nurse told never use oil based product around the stoma site as it prevents the wafer from sticking well. Yes, I realized that early on, butt it was better than trying scratching the wafer off due to all the itchiness. Anyway the above product gave me instant relief. Took the bottle home with me.

Edited to add, this product is made by Coloplast

Surgery was June 20th. Reversal pending Mid march. I have 1 round of capecitabine (AKA xeloda) Left that
should start Dec 1st. I have had trouble with leaks around my stoma since day 1. I tried a sample barrier ring monday called
eakin. it allowed me to keep the appliance on 4 days as opposed to the usual 2 days. I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

MissMolly and Lee thank you for your input you both make a lot of sense. I have no itching or discomfort as a result. I will be watching
things closely for a few days.

I also wondered now in hindsight if it may be stoma powder sometimes i am sloppy at changing my appliance sometimes the powder is difficult to remove between changes once it gets wet.

thanks
