Lung nodule and mesenteric nodes

Postby pantufla » Sun Nov 19, 2017 10:59 am

I haven't posted in a while because there haven't been any changes. So sorry to hear about Tom. Hubby and I were just told he has a lung nodule but that it has been there since the beginning and hasn't changed so not to worry. No one ever mentioned this to us. We were also told the same thing about enlarged lymph nodes in the mesentary. No changes. Has anyone had those little nodes and nodules change into something worrisome?

Hi .
The one that was a met in my mum’s lung grew with each scan . Very slowly but it continued to grow . She had two that popped up , stayed the same size for over a year , maybe eighteen months and on the last scan disappeared . They did not continue growing .
I think the concern is more when they are noting growth over a period of time .
Take care ,

I have a 4mm lung nodule that was seen at my one year scan. So tiny can't biopsy or will pet scan pick it up. I have scarring and inflammation in my lungs and doctors think it is related to that. However, radiologist recommend even though it is non specific to continue follow up due to past cancer diagnosis. The follow up scan showed no change, and I will have another scan in January. It's a little scary I know, it is always in the back of my mind. Hoping no change or reduction in the next scan. I know there are certain nodules that radiologists can determine are cancer by appearance, otherwise have to keep watching and see if there is any change or growth, and if it grows big enough it will be tested I'm sure.

Hello. I had my first post chemo scan in February 2017. They saw one enlarged lymph node that was 1.2 x1.1 in my mesentery. I had a PET scan with no activity in the node. I was not able to biopsy due to its small size. I had a follow up scan in June and it was the same size. I had another scan in October and the node was the same size. My oncologist told me he has a CC patient that has had an enlarged node for 5 years with no issues. I try not to worry too much about it.

That's good news, and encouraging. I'm hoping my lung nodule will show no change as well again in January.

I have had a couple lung nodules <4mm since diagnosis and no change over 5 scans (didn’t light up on PET). My Oncologist said (and all the reading I could do seems to confirm) stable nodules of this size are very common and he is confident they are not Mets.

Regarding lymph nodes - I do have Mets to lymph nodes however I can tell that lymph nodes can be visible/enlarged often for non cancer reasons. I didn’t see what size they were, but If there are only 1-2 that are stable on scans they are likely fine. In my case they were up to 2cm and had signs of extensive Lymphadenopathy in surrounding nodes, all lit up on a PET scan. Enlarged nodes are not all equal and malignant ones usually present as such.

That being said there is nothing wrong with pushing for whatever follow up is required to determine what’s going on with the nodes and my motto is always the more information the better.

So do follow up - but stay positive. If I had to put money down - I’d easily bet neither are Mets.

Hope that helps

13mm isn’t much over what I’ve read as the size cutoff for suspicious nodes to be noted in that area (>1cm). Push for test/scans and be watchful for sure....but odds are on your side that they are nothing.

Both my oncologist and pulmonologist don't believe my 4mm nodule is a met, but the the pulmonologist when saying can be from scarring or infection threw out the possibility of a new lung cancer. I have a lot of scarring and inflammation in my lungs and I am being monitored for interstitial lung disease that may be from an auto immune disorder. Just don't have a lot of other symptoms, but scarring and inflammation can be caused by the chemotherapy as well. This all came up after I finished my adjuvant chemotherapy. Ugh. Just another thing to worry about. Since there was no change in the nodule on my 3 month follow up, I will have another chest scan in January which will be 6 month from the last. Hoping it stays the same or disappears. I try not to worry about it, as I feel pretty good, but as I get closer to scan time I'm sure I will become anxious.
