new here ct scan ordered

Postby colontalk2222 » Fri Nov 17, 2017 3:26 am

if A CT scan was ordered (hospital just called to book an apt) after having a colonoscopy
does that mean that they think the patient has cancer. does that normally mean cancer?

Normally they tell you the colonoscopy results right after the procedure, so your GI doc should have informed you whether you were clear or not.

The CT scan could just mean there is something they are curious about and they want a closer look. Doesn't have to be cancer. If you're concerned, call up your doc and ask for the reason.
Stage IVb, liver/lung mets 8/4/2010
Xelox+Avastin 8/18/10 to 10/21/2011
LAR, liver resec, HAI pump 11/2011
Adjuvant Irinotecan + FUDR
Double lung surgery + ileo reversal 2/2012
Adjuvant FUDR + Xeloda
VATS rt. lung 12/2012 - benign granuloma!
VATS left lung 11/2013
NED 11/22/13 to 12/18/2019, CEA<1

As the others have stated, you typically should have had a consult with your GI doctor after the colonoscopy. Your GI doctor would have told you if you were all clear, if there were any polyps found/removed, or if there were any large masses. If there were any large masses found, your doctor would give you his/her opinion of what it is. They'll some times say they'll need to wait for biopsy results to come back before making a declaration of what it is or they'll say based on their experience if they feel it is cancer.

As far as the scan, the doctor will put in the scan orders the reason for the scan. This helps tell the radiologist what to focus on when looking at the scan images. The radiologist will put in their report things they see which are unrelated to why the doctor ordered the scan, but the reason the scan was ordered is important. You can ask the radiology office what the scan reason is if you can't get a hold of your doctor.
