VATs recovery and mucus

Postby Sunwaterandsky » Mon Nov 06, 2017 6:01 am

I had a VATs procedure on August 22nd and have recovered well. They removed the right upper lobe of my lung. I had very little pain and managed to leave the hospital with only tylenol for pain relief.

My one concern is that my breathing does not seem to be improving as fast as I think it should. I have very noisy breathing and seem to produce a lot of mucus. So far, they have just said that my exercise induced asthma may now be regular asthma. I am using a ventolin inhaler but don't seem to be improving.

Any suggestions? Similar experiences?

August was a while ago, something like 2 months ago. If you are producing mucus this far out, maybe time for a scan. I see that you are in Hong Kong. Do you have insurance that could cover that?

Good luck,

Hi Lee,

I have insurance but the scan section is topped out. I am waiting for a scan from the public hospital. I have actually been suffering from a bad cold, so the mucus is worse than usual. I have an appointment with the oncologist on Tuesday. I think I will get a referral for a scan and just pay for it myself. I don't want to wait.

Thank you for your response. It confirmed what I was thinking.

Best regards,

Oncologist says mucus is an expected side effect of the surgery. Have booked a scan in a couple of weeks - trying to decide if I want to quit my job and move to Europe before I get too old..... and my UK passport is Brexited.
