Surgery in Morning and I just got sick (Lost Antibiotics)Uh OH?

Postby Jorlex » Sun Nov 05, 2017 9:50 pm

My colon resection is tomorrow morning. I'm doing the prep now. This is my 4th prep and this time I'm nauseated for some reason. So when I went to take my final dose of antibiotics, the 4 horse pills. It got my gag reflex and there they went.

How bad is that? I figured I'd just tell them upon my arrival in the morning. It's not like I can get more right now.

If what I think happened, call your Dr. office ASAP and tell them what just happened. Someone on call should decide the next step. I've taken some of those horse pills. I too though I would up chuck them, nurse informed me if I did, call them and more pills would be made available for me  .

Oh what fun we have

good luck tomorrow.

I spent the night before surgery next to the hospital so I probably could have gone to their pharmacy to ask or beg for extras. Losing important meds is something that I would hope pharmacies have a policy for. It might still mean calling the Doctor's on-call person.

What you think happened, happened. There was no saving them.
No pharmacy open 24/7 where I live in sticks.
Showing up and we’ll see.
I’m hoping they’ll just give me more via IV when I arrive.

Ready to get this surgery over.

Same thing happened to me on the day before surgery. I called, and the response was that it was still ok and it happened to a lot of people. I vomited from about 2 pm on the day prior to surgery until they put me under.

Same thing they told me, Tarheelmom. I told them and they just shrugged, said no biggie. And started it on my IV in presurgery.

Surgery went well. 12inches of colon removed a wait for biopsy. But surgeon felt it was good and caught in time.
No size known of tumor. Family didn’t ask or recall him telling. I’ll ask later.

Glad you made it through surgery. For one of my preps for scope, I kept throwing up the solution. Put a call into my surgeon (who also does my scopes). Based on my output, I was clean. Go to bed, see ya in morn. Next morn told surgeon I was throwing up off and on through night. Be prepared, Guess they kept a tube near by just in case I lost it during scope.

I will never take those horse pills again.

Now remember to walk, walk, walk those hospital halls,
