treatment for liver met

Postby pete305 » Tue Oct 31, 2017 9:26 am

liver met treated via RFA last week, 10/25/17. (my CC history in signature below) now to meet the oncologist. what have some of you experienced as far as treatment recommendations? it would help so much to be informed when we go to the oncologist to know what is out there. almost everything i have read has to do with primary liver cancer and not liver mets. thanks so much.

I'm sorry you got this news. I hope your oncologist comes up with a great plan.

My mother was doing the FOLFOX after her surgery as 'clean up chemo' but once they found the tumor in her liver they switched her to Irinotecan. The reason Avastin was not recommended is because she still had an open wound from the reconstruction part of her surgery.

I was stage 4 colorectal with many mets to liver (inoperable). My onc gave me folfox with avastin. I had 11Treatments and my liver Mets shrank considerably and was able to have a liver resection. I'm cancer free now! The treatment and surgery was rough but the end result is nothing shirt of amazing! Good luck to you!

went to oncologist and discussed treatment plan. preferred is folfox for 12 treatment sessions - (6 months) - but since can't tolerate oxaliplatin the plan is to go to irinotocan (sp?) instead. so it will be infusion and then bringing the portable pump home for 2 days just like it was for the initial chemo treatment. surgery confirmed a single liver met.

RFA is not the treatment of choice for liver mets. Resection is the gold standard.

I had a liver resection 6 years ago this coming April. No follow up chemo is needed after a resection.
