awaiting biopsy results

Postby cmrl » Fri Oct 20, 2017 8:24 pm

I had my 35mm sessile polyp removed in 5 pieces by emr colonoscopy on 10/9 and haven't been too anxious about the biopsy since when it was tested upon discovery in June, results were negative. I also figure that if it is malignant, they would let me know right away. I just looked online, and it says results pending until 10/26. Now I'm starting to panic, since I have an Oncologist appt on the 27th. All sorts of thoughts are going through my head. I'm thinking they want to wait until the Oncologist can deal with it to inform me. How long should a pathology report take? I thought 2 weeks.

I once had a 20 minute turn around for a frozen section, intra-operative path report while I was still under GA for my lung met
AND I have had reports signed off on by the Pathologists within a few days ... BUTT had to wait to see my Onc after he returned from vacation 2 weeks later, because they could not be released directly until then

AND as a vet I have had 24 hour phone results routinely ... AND have had to chase up results for a week or so when they did special stains etc.
( or weeks if it was a send out specimen )

My points :
it varies,
nothing you can do or worry about will change anything,
it is what it is ...
sorry BUTT that is the simple truth and one which I chose to abide by since the first go round.
YMMV

Wishing you all the best for good results !
Cheers

The results from the biopsy taken during my colonoscopy came back the next day. My surgical pathology results took much longer because I had some strange cells they needed to identify.

Finally got my results, and the polyp was benign. It was a tubular adenoma, and I need to have another colonoscopy in 3 mo. to check that it was totally removed. I'm not complaining (too much). I dodged a bullet this time, and I'm grateful.
