Family history

Hey guys,

My brother recently underwent surgery for bowel cancer in his late twenties, and I've just found out that my grandma also had bowel cancer in her late 20s. Since two relatives have had bowel cancer so young, what age would I be wanting to start screening? I am 23. GPs don't seem to think there's any problems.

Thanks

Get tested for Lynch Syndrome. Going to try and go to bed now, if you have more questions send me a PM.

Find a new GP. With your family history and your brother being recently diagnosed, all siblings should be check. Get check NOW. With colon cancer, you want to find it when it is a polyp and easy to remove.

Or does the GP know about your brother's recent diagnoses?

I agree with Lee, get checked now. The rule of thumb is for family members to get checked when they are 10 years younger than the age at diagnosis.

Tell your GP to stick it! Get checked ASAP and often.

If not already done, someone in the family (you if noone else is willing) should get genetic testing for Lynch.

My Drs all said my kids should start testing at 35. I was tested for lynch and it was negative. But they still recommended 35

Both of my kids were scoped at age 30 without any pushback from GI docs.

I sleep better now.

I would get checked due to your family history.
