I am now five years cancer free after my lung recurrence

Postby Mys » Wed Oct 18, 2017 2:35 pm

Hello all,

I joined this forum seven years ago being stage 3C. I had a lung recurrence with a single lung met, and had lung surgery five years ago to remove the met (no follow up chemo).

Today I got the news that my latest CT scan was normal, and I am now five years cancer free. The doctors will stop scanning me now. I will consider this a cure. I was afraid to dream I'd ever get to this point, but now I do believe I will grow old cancer free.

I am updating my story here even if I am no longer active on this board because I know some of you with lung recurrences might find hope in it, as I once did when I read stories of people leaving cancer behind after being stage IV or recurrent.

My best wishes to you all.
CC diagnosed June 2010 (at 34), stage 3C. 10/26 lymph nodes. Simultaneous DCIS breast cancer. Lung met first seen on scan March 2012 (6mm), open lung surgery October 2012 (8mm). Biopsy confirmed metastasis. No chemo after lung surgery. NED.

This is awesome news. I just received news of a clear ct scan today as well. Your story makes me feel positive. Last May a 4mm nodule was seen on my scan, and a 3 month repeat showed no change. I'm hoping it will stay stable in my January scan, but it helps me to know that even if it ends up being something I can still do well. My oncologist believes it has to do with my interstitial lung disease, but my pulmonologist threw out the possibility of a new lung cancer. Ugh. That is why we have to watch as she said cancers can double in size in 3-4 months. Congrats on your five years and many more to come. I love these stories.

Congrats!! Your experience is rely useful for ppl with lung Mets. My mum has multiple lung nodules which made her harder to hv surgery, but I rely want her to undergo surgery in order to be cancer free.

I was 5 year post liver resection for a 1.4 cm solitary met this past April, (8 years post Stage III) and my doctor offered to stop scans. I couldn't do it! We've gone to CEA at 6 months, scans and CEA at 1 year. He said he can keep doing it for 10 years from the liver met if I insist.

I've seen a number of RECTAL patients who had very late mets, but almost no late mets with liver only. I am just a huge coward, I think. I'm 67 in December and know I won't be healthy forever and ever, but just so afraid something will appear and it'll be missed if I stop scans completely.
Stage III cc surgery 1/7/09. 12 tx FOLFOX
Stage IV PET = 1.5cm liver met. HR 4/11/12

14 years since dx and 11 years post liver resection.
