My small "cancer's death" anniversary

Postby mariane » Tue Oct 17, 2017 8:35 pm

2 years ago my MSKCC oncologist came to me with my pathology report and told me that my cancer was dead (I had 10+ liver tumors). My CEA went down below 2 in October 2015 from 140 in mid August that year at the beginning of chemotherapy.
I achieved NED in May 2016 and yesterday I got another clear scan. My CEA yesterday was 1.1 at MSKCC. My liver tests went completely back to norm ( most of them low norm). My recent LDH is 140.
I can fully live my life. I travel, hike, jog, do pilates, play tennis and other sports with my energetic kids. A year ago I came back to college and I am still surprised that I can learn something after so much chemo. I enjoy gardening and coffee with my friends. I see how my kids grow.
I want to write that it is worth to do treatment. I outlived my 2 expiration dates. My first oncologists and radiologist denied I could ever get to NED. I am clear.
There is hope!

Thank you, Mary!

I pray for Jesse every day since we had surgery during the same time. I think about you guys a lot. I hope we could meet one day again. I will have next scan round in mid January.

There are always so many people at MSKCC. On Sunday in radiology office among others I met an older Dr. K patient . He was 13 years under her care. After 82 chemo treatments and recurrences he has been NED and off chemo for over 10 years. Overall he was in a very good condition and very, very positive. He was a messenger of hope to us all sitting there. Some were still on chemo, some freshly out, different steps on the journey. Dr. K infected us all with her energy and battle spirit.
I also met Katja- the radiology nurse who remembered me. I cried in her arms during my first scan. She is our great cheerleader.

All the best for you and Jesse,

Thanks as always for the prayers. Very much appreciated. My prayer list grows every time we are at MSK and you remain on it of course. We will be there again 11/8 for next scans, but I will check with you once we have January dates. We too meet so many wonderful people each time. One long term guy gave Jesse an eye of the tiger marble as a reminder for strength and hope. :D

We travelled to Germany to see our son recently and have an Aruba tripped planned for December so making sure to have things to look forward to to balance the bad fatigue weeks.

Keep in touch and congrats again!
