There are a lot of things that can cause back pain as you have complicated structures back there and a lot of potential points of failure. There are a lot of different ways to get back injuries too. I had a back injury back in my 20s from carrying a weight set to my apartment and it came back from time to time until I started beefing up my core. I would not necessarily expect a GP to be able to diagnose back pain - that's why there are specialists. I suspect that there are several things that can cause loose stools as well If you want to rule out colon cancer, the usual approach would be to get a colonoscopy. Your GP should know this stuff though.
