Bowel discomfort

Postby Thetoad » Tue Oct 03, 2017 6:22 pm

Hi. I had an extended right hemicolectomy almost four years ago and my gallbladder was removed about five months ago. My bowel movements are usually ok first thing then much looser an hour or two later. Which is normal for me I'm told! But I've noticed a sort of griping discomfort during the day and wonder if it's because the bile is now fed straight into the bowel and is irritating things. There are diverticular pockets so they may be annoyed. My diet is anything but I am hoping to see a dietician soon for advice. I was told I could eat anything I liked. I am due to see my Dr in two weeks. And my three year surveillance colonoscopy is due now but may not be until January. All blood tests, the yearly colonoscopy and 18 month CT scan were ok. Thanks for any input.

I had my gallbladder removed back in '97 or '98. Long before cancer reared its ugly head. It took me a good year before I could eat any greasy food. Bacon was soooooo off the table. So was pizza and anything with a lot of fat in it.

Do you notice the pain with certain foods?

A friend of mine had his gallbladder removed after his resection. He is having the same problem...especially with greasy foods.

Thanks both. Yes, it looks like I have to do some trial and error with my diet, at least until I see the elusive dietician! Yesterday was quite uncomfortable, but a butter chicken pie for breakfast probably didn't help. (I treat myself every 3 weeks after a routine appt with the Practice nurse. It's not an everyday breakfast.) Pizza last night but not toooo bad this morning. Because I had a major scare with my bowel cancer 4 years ago, I am very aware of any twinges. Especially in the early hours if I'm not sleeping that well. Thanks again.
