Sorry about the polyps...IDK if they can be prevented, I think some people just grow them.

I am so uncomfortable about the waiting times between colonoscopies in folks like us, who have had diagnoses of cancer. THREE YEARS IS TOO LONG!!!!!

I had my 1 year colonoscopy a few days ago and the doc said, see ya in 3 years. I was like, I think that's too long. He said, we will discuss it.

He's g-d right we will discuss it. We'll discuss it in 2 years when I am back at the outpatient surgical hospital with the back of my gown open as he is inserting the scope into my rectum. It'll be an uncomfortable convo but oh well.

Hoping your polyps are not the scary type. The bastards.

Hi TXLiz. Yes I agree. My oncologist, who I otherwise get along with, said that I had to wait three years after my last colonoscopy in 2015, that was a year after I had been diagnosed in 2014. And they removed polyps in that 2015 colonoscopy! I bypassed him by having a conversation with my gastroenterologist who agreed with me that two years was a more appropriate waiting time, and that is why I had one in 2017. Since your gastroenterologist is the one proposing the three year waiting period, I might look for a gastroenterologist who is in-network but believes in more aggressive surveillance via colonoscopy. Did they find any polyps in this last colonoscopy that you had? I think that plays a role in whether they can get insurance to approve of the colonoscopy earlier than the usual schedule.

My surgeon said 3 yrs also. I kind of think should be less. Nothing was found, but just seems since I was told my tumor was prob there 5 years and I had a colonoscopy five years before the one that found the tumor. So I would think should be aggressive. I'll talk to gastro in a couple weeks also.

Nope, last colonoscopy was clear. I will force my will upon some hapless GI doc in 2 years time. There's zero chance I am waiting three years. I am glad to hear I am not being paranoid or unreasonable and others feel the same way. Good for you for getting taken care of in a way that made you feel comfortable. I'd completely understand a doc being unwilling to scope me every year. But every 2 years? I bet if it were them they'd get a scope every 2 years at least. Three years is an extending growing season for a cancer IMO. Plenty of time to do some real damage where nobody can see anything.
