Colonoscopy Prep

Postby testing765 » Tue Oct 03, 2017 1:12 pm

I forget how much fun colonoscopy prep is :-( I had my first on 2014, the second in 2015 after surgery and chemotherapy. I havent had one since then. My oncologist wanted me to wait 3 years from the one in 2015 before I had another. I wasnt comfortable waiting that long, so I met with my gastroenterologist and he agreed that two years was a better waiting period. The colonoscopy is tomorrow and that is why I am having so much fun today :-( Wish me luck.

Good luck with your colonoscopy today!

You are now over three years out from your 2014 Stage 3 DX. Remember ... you were once termed the "poster child" here for doing so much research in the beginning and for being so thoroughly prepared for each new intervention as it came along. All of this seems to have paid off in your case. Here you are, now, three years later, and you are still NED, and you seem to be much more relaxed than you were at the very beginning. Oh how time flies!

In 2014, chrissyrice wrote:...I have to say that you probably could be the "poster child" for being prepared and collecting information prior to surgery.

It would be so helpful to others to hear the outcome from someone that took the time to consult with more than one doctor prior to surgery. You really asked some great questions and I too learned more about robotic surgery from your posts.

It's so good you got tested before you had any symptoms and could take some time after your colonoscopy to make sure of what you felt was best for your situation.

My surgeon said 3 years also. I had a clean colonoscopy one year after surgery and 5 months after finishing adjuvant chemo. I was kind of surprised as I thought I would be having yearly for awhile. I see my gastro in a couple weeks, maybe I'll ask him as well. But, I really don't want to go through that prep again, especially after losing most of my rectum. Good Luck tomorrow and hope the rest of your day/evening isn't too bad.

Thank you O Stoma Mia! You and many others were helpful to me in the beginning and throughout this whole experience. I was very anxious in the beginning of all of this, and the anxiety stayed with me for quite awhile. I'm sure I will be nervous tomorrow, but I almost have an attitude like- if there is something bad in there, let's just find it and get it out of there!

Yes, I am a little over three years from the colon resection. My three year ct scan was pushed into early november, so I think if I get a good result with that, I will feel like I have been a full three years cancer free!

Time sure does fly!

I think my tastebuds are getting old . I had scope number 12 in April. It was pretty easy. No problems with the prep tho it still rates low on my preferred drinks list. It was three and a half year after my previous scope and my GI expected to find nothing wrong. I suggested he have a real good look. I had four polyps removed . The biggest was eleven mm and required internal staples to stop it bleeding. Most had mild displaysia but no cancer. Just goes to show after 20 years you still need scopes. Wishing you good results and not too much discomfort, Ron.

The colonoscopy is tomorrow and that is why I am having so much fun today :-( Wish me luck.

This may make you laugh but I used my uncle's bed side toilet commode while watching t.v. during my prep. It was the best cause I didn't have to get up and walk to the bathroom as much. It was actually GOLDEN lol. I was told by my dad that I got the brutal prep (whatever that means) I had to drink prep every 20 min or so like the whole night. I even ate orange jello, which I do not recommend as it showed up on my colonoscopy. :o Best of luck. PS) don't drink your prep near lap top, as my whole lap top ended up with water damage.. i was so upset.. luckily my friend who is a computer tech person, he was able to recover my data. Apple wanted so much money, so I am lucky that my friend is an expeert at data retrieval. BEST OF LUCK!!! I really am glad I did the Propifol! I ended up eating the best lobster roll sandwich shortly after with 3 shirley temples. It was the best sandwich I ever had!! ;-)

Hi. Just a quick follow up. I had the colonoscopy yesterday. It had been two years since my last colonoscopy. The gastroenterologist removed four polyps. He doesnt think they were cancerous, but they are being biopsied. Unfortunately, even though I followed the prep instructions, the prep wasnt as good as the gastroenterologist wanted, so I will need another colonoscopy in one year. We spoke briefly before the procedure, and he said that if no polyps were found I may have been able to wait three years for my next colonoscopy. But because of my history he thought 18 months might be a better time for the next colonoscopy.

Is there anything I can do/take that would decrease the likelihood of these polyps developing in the first place? I have been taking vitamin d3 and low dose aspirin and I have been exercising and getting more fiber in my diet. I dont know if there is something else I could do? It looks like since the time I have been diagnosed, my body creates about two polyps a year on average.
