Need advice

Postby MKC70 » Thu Sep 28, 2017 11:12 pm

I know this is going to sound strange, but here we go. I have been really careful with my diet, doing very well with what I have been eating/drinking so far. I am going to an event this weekend where they will be serving alcohol. I am not a big drinker, but do love an occasional glass of wine. I am trying to figure out if having a glass of wine will be OK. I am 1 month with recovery from my lower anterior resection with temporary ileostomy. Thank you for your time

I drank and ate anything with my temp ill. The red wine made my bag black with black discharge. That's the red wine. I had no problems. We have to spoil ourselves sometimes. Just be careful you don't forget about the bag and have an incident.

Enjoy it now before your reversal :D

I think it would help if you created a signature so that people here can know your situation before they decide what kind of advice to give.

A link to a signature template is here:

According to what you have said so far, your initial signature might look something like.this:

I ate and drank virtually as normal. The only things I found a problem were too much salad and not to be recommended was jacket potato with baked beans..all that fibre...lol

I have quite a lot of comments on how to handle attendance at an event while you have an ileostomy, but I will limit my comments now to this:
I think 1 glass of wine would be OK provided it isn't sparkling wine or champagne. Any carbonated or gassy beverage is likely to produce gas in your digestive tract with the possibility of a stoma-bag blow-out before the event is over.

I'm telling you this out of personal experience.

I drank lots of red wine with my ileostomy. No issues other than alcohol makes your stoma active with liquid discharge.
